BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team earned a come-from-behind victory over John Jay, 67-60, in the CUNY Athletic Conference opener, on Tuesday evening. The Lightning trailed by three at the half but outscored the Bloodhounds, 41-31, in the second to extend their winning streak to three games.

Freshman guard John Brens (Washington Heights, N.Y./Riverside Christian Academy) led the way for the Lightning (4-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) as he tallied a double-double with 13 points, while dishing out a game-high 10 assists. He also grabbed seven rebounds, and went 9-11 from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Bloodhounds (1-4, 0-1 CUNYAC) led by as many as six with 15:33 left to play in regulation, but the Lightning were able to answer back thanks to back-to-back three-point baskets from junior guard Olando Minott (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) and junior forward Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Vernon) to tie the game at 38.

John Jay would regain the lead, 50-47, with 8:51 remaining in the second stanza, but Lehman came back yet again, by going on a 10-2 run in a span of 3:22, to take a 57-52 lead with less than five minutes left to play. Six of those ten points were scored by free throws including two from Brens that gave Lehman the lead for good, 53-52, with 6:37 to go.

The Lightning were able to hit key free throws down the stretch to extend their lead and helped clinch Lehman's first conference victory of the season.

Jones had a game-high 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and blocked four shots. Minott scored 13 points and added three assists, while sophomore forward Driton Hasangjekaj (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) scored 11 points and grabbed seven boards.

Lehman will be back in action for a non-conference road match with McDaniel College, in Maryland, on Sunday. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
