Hobart Stifles Buffalo State, 56-46

GENEVA, NY—Buffalo State (1-1) was held to its lowest offensive output in more than a decade as it dropped a 56-46 decision at Hobart (2-0) tonight in a non-conference game.

Only five plays scored for Buffalo State, led by Chris Thompson (Far Rockaway/Channel View) who had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) and Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) added 10 points apiece.

Buffalo State jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead, but the Statesmen evened the score at 14-14 midway through the first half.  Hobart mounted a 9-2 run from there and closed the first half with a seven-point lead at 33-26.  Buffalo State used a 12-0 run early in the second half to erase a double-digit deficit and take a brief lead at 38-36, but the Statesmen would outscored the Bengals 20-8 over the final 13 minutes of the game.

Buffalo State shot just 32-percent from the field and was 1 of 12 from 3-point range and just 1 of 11 at the free-throw line.  Hobart shot only 34-percent from the field, but was 8 of 24 from long range and 6 of 13 at the charity stripe.

Buffalo State will next open SUNYAC play at Cortland on Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
