Balanced Hornet Attack Leads Rout of Panthers, 84-64
ROCKY MOUNT, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and kept the offensive intensity up in the second half to defeat Ferrum College 84-64 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets, who received votes in the first poll of the 2014-15 season, are 4-0 for the second time in the Hilliary Scott era. The first time was in 2012-13 when that LC team started the season 11-2.
Ferrum jumped out to an early start behind a three-pointer from Marvin Wilson and six-straight points from Rashawn Speas to take a 9-5 lead at the 16:19 mark.
Zack Burnett snagged the rebound on the next Panther possession and Lynchburg answered on a three by Daniel Rowe. The junior, Rowe, converted on a pair of layups the next two times down the floor to net the Hornets a 12-9 lead.
A.J. Hamilton and Austen Arnold added layups to widen the gap to 16-9 in favor of Lynchburg with 12:16 left in the first. In total, the Hornet defense held Ferrum without a point for over six minutes during the 11-0 run.
It would be 10 minutes before Ferrum converted on a field goal when Troy Mann cut the Lynchburg lead to nine at 25-16 with 6:41 remaining in the first.
Daniel Rowe made seven straight points after the Mann basket as Lynchburg started an 18-5 run to assume the huge halftime advantage.
Four Hornets finished the game in double-figures, led by 15 points from Alex Graves to go with a game-high eight rebounds. He added to his already impressive block average with four more against the Panthers. Arnold, Burnett and Rowe each contributed 14 points while Arnold added five steals. Lyndon White led the Hornets with five assists to go with eight points.
Lynchburg had 11 different Hornets score in the game.
Ferrum (3-2) was led by Speas' 17 points and five rebounds while Alek Ayer added 14 points.
