Oxy Scores 115 Points in Rout of ASU

LOS ANGELES — Spencer Levy led seven Occidental players in double figures with 22 points, as the Tigers blew past American Sports University 115-69 in their home opener at Rush Gymnasium on Friday.

Oxy improves to 2-1 overall.

Levy went 7 for 10 from the 3-point line and also added six rebounds, five assists and four steals in 23 minutes played.

The Tigers were 18 for 39 from beyond the arc on wide open looks against the Eagles' soft zone defense. Kory Hamane went 5 for 6 from deep, finishing with 15 points and 6 assists, Andrew Johnson scored 16 points, Taylor Walton and JJ Friedman each had 14, and Juwan Rice and Andrew Garrison each added 11.

Rice, who nearly had a quadruple-double in Oxy's opener against Caltech on Nov. 15 (20 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 8 steals) and followed it up with 20 points and sevens steals at NCAA Division II Azusa Pacific on Nov. 18, had another well-rounded game, with seven assists, eight rebounds and four steals to go along with his third consecutive game in double figures.

In three games played, Rice has 19 steals.

Devin McDonough led American Sports with 24 points, Elson Vessel added 18 and Evan Bethel had 15.

Oxy is back in action on Saturday against Bethesda at 7 p.m. in Rush Gym.
