The Millikin men's basketball team defeated MacMurray College 106-92 at the Webster Cavallo Classic on Nov. 22 in St. Louis, Mo.
Millikin had a 48-46 advantage at the half and the outscored the Highlanders by 12 in the second half to pull out the win. Millikin shot 60 percent from the field and 81 percent (30-27) from the free throw line. MacMurray hit and 53 percent of its shots and was 13-20 from the line (65 percent). Millikin won the rebounding battle 35-28.
It was the TJ show for Millikin with freshman TJ Sims leading the Big Blue with a career high 29 points. He also had four assists, four rebounds and two steals. Junior TJ Griffin had 27 points for Millikin along with four steals and two assists. Freshmen Nick Novak and Nathan Biggs both scored 12 points each. Biggs added a team high eight rebounds.
MacMurray had five players in double figures lead by Dylan Gutherie with 20 and Clayton Whitlock with 19.
Millikin is now 2-2 on the season while MacMurray falls to 0-3.
Millikin will host Principia College on November 25 as part of a doubleheader with the Millikin women. The women's game tips at 5 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7 p.m.
