Marietta defeats LaRoche 66-51

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Marietta College Men's Basketball team opened a six-game road stretch with a 66-51 win at LaRoche College Saturday (Nov. 29). Three Pioneers scored in double figures as the Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the season. LaRoche falls to 0-3 overall.

Senior post player Garrett Stephenson scored 12 points in the first half and finished with 16 points to lead the Pioneers. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Andy Dollman was 6-for-8 from the floor and had 15 points on the night. Junior Luis Garcia chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds. Junior Eddy Grenert had seven points and three steals, while sophomore Keith Richardson added eight points.

Marietta pounded the ball inside all afternoon scoring 48 points in the paint. LaRoche edged the Pioneers on the glass, 29-26. It was the first time this season that Marietta didn't win the battle of the boards.

The Pioneers never trailed in the game and took a 34-25 lead into halftime. Marietta extended the margin to double digits for most of the second half and led by as many as 16 points, 60-44, with 6:49 left in the game.

For the game, Marietta was 27-of-53 (50.9%) from the floor, 2-of-12 (16.7%_ from three-point range and 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw line. LaRoche shot 37.3% (19-of-51) from the floor, 15.8% (3-of-19) behind the arc and 58.8% (10-of-17) at the charity stripe.

Marietta forced 15 Redhawk turnovers, while committing just eight.

The Pioneers are off until next Saturday (Nov. 29) when Marietta travels to Westminster College for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
