Campion's 21 leads Statesmen over Bombers

ITHACA, N.Y.—Sophomore guard Thomas Campion made his first six 3-pointers of the season and scored a game-high 21 points to lead Hobart to an 84-66 win in Statesmen Head Coach Tim Sweeney's debut at Ithaca College tonight. 

Campion shot 7-of-12 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. He was joined in double digits by junior forward Jake Rayburn, senior guard Trey Blanding, and senior guard Connor Rehbaum. Rayburn was 7-of-10 shooting for 14 points in his colleigate debut. Blanding scored 12 points and handed out a game-high seven assists. Rehbaum also scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Hobart shot 45 percent from the floor, 35 percent from deep (10-29), and 59 percent at the line. The Statesmen had a 44-41 advantage on the glass and committed just seven turnovers to the Bombers' 15.

Ithaca got a double-double from Keefe Gitto on 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Max Masucci and Joe Masino added 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Bombers shot 40 percent from the floor, 29 percent from behind the arc, and 62 percent at the line.

Hobart never trailed in the contest and took the lead for good with a 14-4 run early in the first half. Campion and Blanding both sank triples during the surge. Ithaca rallied with a 10-3 run to get within three, 27-24, but the Statesmen ended the half on a 20-5 run, carrying a 47-29 lead into the break.

Campion was 5-for-5 from 3-point range, producing a game-high 15 points in the first 20 minuntes.

After the intermission, Hobart never let its lead dip below 17 on the way to the season opening victory.

The Statesmen will make their Bristol Gym debut on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they host Buffalo State at 8 p.m.
