Mallinger leads Tomcats to 73-59 win over Lords

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Eric Mallinger scored 18 points and corralled nine rebounds Sunday, leading the Thiel College men's basketball team to a 73-59 win over the Kenyon Lords during the second day of play in the 23rd annual Buzz Ridl Classic, hosted by Westminster College. 

Mallinger was one of two Tomcats named to the All-Classic Team. He scored 37 points during the 2-day event, grabbed 23 rebounds and tallied eight assists and five blocks. Luke Kochka was also named to the All-Classic Team. Like Mallinger, he scored 37 points in two games to go along with eight rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Kochka made 6-of-8 three-pointers Saturday and Sunday.

Khari Bess (13) and Justin Dade (11) also scored in double digits for the Tomcats Sunday. Bess also handed out a game-best six assists in Sunday's win over the Lords. 

Dan Voight recorded a double-double for Kenyon Sunday with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Connolly led the Lords with 15 points while Brien Comey pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Tomcats (2-0) will travel to Erie, Pa. on Wednesday to take on Penn State Behrend at 8 p.m.
