Richardson, TX - The Louisiana College men's basketball team made history on Friday afternoon, as they took down the defending NCAA Division III Runners-Up Mary Hardin-Baylor by a final score of 81-71 to record their first ever win in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.

The Wildcats trailed by two at 33-31 with just 22 seconds left in the first half, but a clutch three-pointer from LC freshman point guard Dylan Brewer was buried to give the Wildcats the 34-33 lead heading into the locker room.

The two teams would battle back-and-forth early in the second half, but the Wildcats used a 14-3 run from the 11:54 mark until the 7:14 mark of the second half to take a 62-50 lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Brewer, who started in place of injured star sophomore point guard Kevin Cottonham, finished the game with five rebounds, five assists, and a career-high 16 points. LC senior guard Doc Welch led LC in scoring with a game-high 17 points on 3-of-6 shooting from behind the three-point line.

Wildcat sophomore Kevin Lewis added 16 points and seven rebounds while freshman center Raheem Regis scored 12 points and registered eight rebounds before fouling out in the second half.

Despite being called for 25 personal fouls compared to just 15 for the Crusaders, the Wildcats were able to stay on top most of the afternoon due to their 8-for-20 (40%) performance from behind the three-point line while holding Mary Hardin-Baylor to a 15.8% (3-for-19) day from beyond the arc.

One of the nation's most powerful programs over the past decade, the Crusaders finish the season with a 17-9 overall mark while the Wildcats move to 12-13 overall. They will face the winner of Friday's Sul Ross vs. Hardin-Simmons quarterfinal game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the first semifinal matchup.
