Brooklyn, NY --- The #4 seeded Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team had its postseason cut early, as the Bulldogs were upset by the #5 seeded Hunter College Hawks, 90-80, in the quarterfinals round of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon at the West Quad Center.

With the loss, BC ends its season with a 12-14 overall record, while Hunter improves to 12-13 overall and advances to the semifinals round, where the winner between #1 College of Staten Island and #8 City College of New York will await. The semifinals round is scheduled for this Tuesday, February 25th at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY.

Brooklyn was led by junior Jai Kellman, who powered the BC offense with a game and career-high 36 points on 13-of-28 shooting from the field, including going 3-for-10 from beyond the arc and 7-for-8 from the line. CUNYAC Second Team All-Star sophomore Egzon Gjonbalaj finished the game with a double-double, contributing with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while adding seven assists and three blocks. Classmate Jamel Gist also chipped in with a double-double, ending the day with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Hunter was paced by CUNYAC First Team All-Star Frankie Drayton, who led the Hawks with a team-high 25 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line, to go along with six assists. For his efforts, Drayton was named the Player of the Game.

Jarrell Antley poured in 18 points coming off the bench for the Hawks, while Lester Anim added 16 points. Brian Kruger was also in double figures with 13 points, while Robert Borusiewicz registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs took early control of the game, jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead through the first three minutes of the game. Kellman scored all five points.

The lead would not last long; however, as the visitors used an 11-0 run to go up 12-5 at the 15:01 mark of the opening half. After a jumper from Kellman made it 12-7 a minute later, the Hawks once again went on a scoring surge, using another 11-0 run to go up 23-7 midway through the period.

Hunter would lead by double figures for the majority of the final 10 minutes in the half, as the Hawks would go into the locker room with an 11-point cushion, 40-29, highlighted by a three at the buzzer from Kruger.

Brooklyn would continue to trail by double-figures for much of the second half, going down by as many as 18, 55-37, with 13:22 left in the game. With the season on the line, the Bulldogs would not go down without a fight, as BC began to chip away at its deficit and get to with seven, 66-59, following a pair of free throws from Gjonbalaj with just 6:47 left in the game.

That's as close as Brooklyn would get the rest of the way, as the Hawks used a quick 8-0 run over the next two minutes to go back up double digits, 74-59. Hunter would go on to cruise to its 90-80 win to advance to the CUNYAC semifinals.

For the game, BC shot 40.3% (39-for-72) from the field and struggled from beyond the arc shooting 26.1% (6-for-23) and from the line going 16-for-27 (59.3%).

Hunter shot 48.2% (27-for-56) from the field, including going 4-for-10 (40.0%) from three. The Hawks took full advantage of the charity stripe, shooting 86.5% (32-for-37) from the line.

With no seniors on this season's team, Brooklyn will look to return all 11 players from this campaign and make a strong push at a CUNYAC Championship run in 2014-2015.
