NJCU Wraps Up Regular Season With 71-68 Win at Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.comNew Jersey City University had four players score in double figures while shooting 51.0 percent as a team and the Gothic Knights wrapped up the No. 5 seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament with a 71-68 NJAC road win over Rutgers-Camden on February 19 in the regular season finale.
 

NJCU (14-11, 9-9 NJAC) ran the table in the final two weeks of the season to win its final four games but lost the opportunity to host an NJAC Tournament quarterfinal game when Kean University rallied to defeat then first-place Rutgers-Newark, 77-73, on Wednesday night. Camden's season ends at 4-21 (2-16 NJAC). NJCU knocked off the Scarlet Raptors for the 18th consecutive meeting and 46th time in 47 games.
 
The victory also guaranteed NJCU will finish with a winning record for the 37th time in its last 39 seasons and a .500 or better record and non-losing season for the 43rd time in 44 years.
 
In the NJAC Quarterfinals, NJCU will face Kean, the No. 4 seed, on Saturday, February 22 at 4:30 p.m. at Harwood Arena in Union, NJ. The Cougars won the season series—71-50 in Union on January 4 and 65-61 in Jersey City on February 1. The winner faces top-seeded Richard Stockton College in the NJAC Semifinals on February 26.
 
Senior small forward WALIK ALBRIGHT (Jersey City, NJ/Create Charter) had another outstanding effort, finishing with 17 points (6-9 FG), including both threes he attempted, along with seven rebounds, five steals and three assists despite only playing 24 minutes with four fouls. He upped his career scoring total to 1,125 points and reached double figures for the ninth game in a row.
