William Paterson Men’s Basketball Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 78-65

WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman guard Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) poured in a season-best 22 points and the William Paterson men's basketball team (19-5, 13-4 NJAC) celebrated Senior Day with a 78-65 victory against Rutgers-Camden (4-20, 2-15 NJAC) Feb. 15.

 

The Pioneers spotted the Scarlet Raptors a 10-2 lead during the game's first four minutes, but then scored the next 14 points en route to a 16-10 edge at the 10:24 mark. WP owned a 37-28 halftime advantage, making seven of its 13 (.538) three-point attempts while holding Rutgers-Camden to a .357 (10-28) field-goal percentage. Frick made his first four shots from beyond the arc to lead all first-half scorers with 12 points in eight minutes off the bench.

 

William Paterson led by as many as 23 five different times during the second stanza before the reserves saw the majority of action down the stretch.

 

Frick finished 6-for-7 (.857) from three-point range and 7-for-10 (.700) overall. Senior guard Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) finished with 20 tallies, five assists and three steals, while junior guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) had 10 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Senior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 tallies.

 

Senior forward Robert Anders led Rutgers-Camden with 16 points, tying for the team high with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard/forward John Tatem posted 13 tallies and junior guard/forward Alex Smart had 10.

 

Prior to the game, WP honored seniors King-Gilchrist and Erik Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Paramus Catholic).

 

William Paterson will finish the regular season Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Ramapo at 7:30 p.m.
