Baruch Wins Third Straight, Defeat CCNY(49-48) to Clinch Third Place

The Baruch College Bearcats finished their regular season schedule on Saturday with a 59-48 CUNYAC home victory over the Beavers of CCNY in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats (14-11, 10-6 CUNYAC) clinch the third seed in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament and will host a quarterfinal round playoff home game on Saturday, February 22, at 6:00 pm.

The exact quarterfinal opponent will not be available until the conference schedule is completed with various make up games to be played during the next few days.

The Bearcats needed a 10-0 run late in the second half to pull away for the victory. They won the battle of the boards with a 46-36 advantage and shot 54 percent (13-for-24) during the second half for their third straight victory.

Granville Gittens was the leading scorer with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots and four steals. Matt Feldman scored nine points and three steals, while Brian McMahon contributed eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The visiting Beavers (7-16, 3-11 CUNYAC) struggled shooting 28.1 percent (16-for-57), which included 6-of-22 from 3-point range and 10-of-19 from the free throw line. Damian Okon led their team with 11 points in six minutes of action.

Prior to the game, the Bearcats held a moment of silence to honor former basketball player Mark Posner '72, who passed away earlier this week.

The annual men's basketball alumni game also took place this afternoon as various players returned one more time to play in the ARC Arena in front of family and friends.
