BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Gordon Lyons scored 28 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and grabbed 16 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season to lead the Knights to an 81-67 victory at Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball action, Saturday.

A native of the Buffalo, N.Y. suburb of Amherst, Lyons became the 24th 1,000-point scorer in program history.  He also is the second Knight to do it this season as senior Connor Fedge scored his milestone point in an 81-73 victory over Oswego on Jan. 28.

"Tonight was Gordon's night for sure," said head coach Steve Minton. "He was awesome from start to finish. As a team, we mixed up our defenses quite a bit and I think that helped keep a strong Buffalo State offense in check."

Geneseo (18-4, 12-3 SUNYAC) built an early 13-5 lead after a jumper by Fedge, who finished with 15 points including 9-of-11 free throws, with 16:11 on the clock. Buffalo State would respond with an 12-3 outburst to take a 17-16 lead at 11:57. Tied 22-22, with 7:37 to play in the first half, the Knights would finish the period with on a 20-12 run to lead 42-34 at halftime.

Geneseo would take control of the game in the second half, shooting better than 68 percent (15-of-22) from the field in the final 20 minutes. The Bengals (11-12, 7-9 SUNYAC) would close within five with a 7-4 spurt that made it a 46-41 deficit at 18:02, but an old-fashioned three point play and a pair of free-throws by Fedge started and finished, respectively,  a decisive 20-2 run that staked the Knights to a 66-43 advantage with 11:39 remaining that proved insurmountable.

Lyons scored his 1,000th-career point during the run on a put-back that gave Geneseo a 61-43 lead with 13:40 to play in the game.

The Knights wrap up the road portion of the 2013-14 regular season on Tuesday, taking on host Cortland at 8:00 p.m.
