POTSDAM, N.Y. - SUNY Genseo junor forward James McKenna scored a career-high 23 points while senior guard Connor Fedge added 20 points to lead the Knights to a 86-74 victory over Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball play, Saturday afternoon.

All five of Geneseo's starters scored in double-figures, including 15 ponts by senior forwardMatt Curry, 14 from junior Gordon Lyons and 10 from senior guard Thomas Decker. The Knights also shot a season-best 60.4 percent (29-of-48) from the field that included a 10-of-17 showing (58.8 percent) from three-point range.

"A solid effort defensively in the first half led to some easy baskets and a good halftime cushion," said head coach Steve Minton, who picked up his 200th victory on the Geneseo sidelines with the victory. "Like a lot of teams, Potsdam was concerned with limiting Gordon, which allows other players to get some good looks. McKenna made the most of his opportunities tonight.

The game was pushed back over an hour from its original tip-off time of 4:00 p.m. and was moved to nearby Clarkson after the ceiling at Potsdam's Maxcy Gymnasium started leaking.

Down one, 16-15, with 13:48 on the first-half clock, the Knights (7-2, 1-1 SUNYAC) went on a 16-0 run that included eight points from Fedge and a pair of three-pointers by McKenna to forge ahead 31-16 with 10:52 remaining in the period.

Potsdam (2-9, 0-4 SUNYAC) scored seven unanswered points to trim the Geneseo lead back down to eight, 31-23, at 7:29, but the Knights would keep the heat on with a 19-8 run to finish the half leading 50-31.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Decker and Curry followed by a McKenna layup in the opening minutes of the second half staked the Knights to their largest lead of the game, 58-31, with 17:50 on the clock, which would prove too big a hole for the Bears to dig out of the rest of the way.

Potsdam would close within 12 points, 78-66, with 3:24 remaining, but didn't get any closer as the Knights picked up their first SUNYAC victory of the season.

Geneseo will look to make it two in a row on Tuesday night, hosting Buffalo State in an 8:00 p.m. tip-off in Schrader Gymnasium.
