Geneseo Falls 87-79 To St. John Fisher In Wendy's College Classic First Round

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Matt Curry scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but it was fifth-seeded St. John Fisher moving past the fourth-seeded Knights, 87-79, in the first round of the 48th-Annual Wendy's College Classic.

St. John Fisher guard Adam Ambielli scored a game-high 21 points, including 4-of-5 three pointers, to lead five Cardinals in double-digit scoring. 

Geneseo (2-1) would lead by as many as 11 early in the second half, but St. John Fisher (2-1) would put together a 15-3 run over a 4:22 span to take a 55-54 lead with 10:15 remaining in the game. Tied 68-68 with with 4:30 left in regulation, the Cardinals pulled away with a 14-4 spurt to take a 82-72 lead with 58 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach.

Geneso junior forward Gordon Lyons scored 14 points while grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds for his first double-double of the season in the loss.

St. John Fisher (2-1) advances to play top-seeded Brockport in the semifinals on Friday at 6:00 p.m., hosted by Roberts Wesleyan. Brockport defeated 8th-seeded RIT, 83-61, in the night's other quarterfinal matchup.

Geneseo will take on host RIT in the consolation semifinals on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
