Geneseo Solves New Paltz In OT, 92-82

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Gordon Lyons totaled 24 points and 11 rebounds while senior guard Connor Fedge also scored 24 points to lead the Knights to a 92-82 overtime victory at New Paltz, Friday.

Trailing by 16, 63-47 with 13:19 to play in regulation, the Knights outscored the Hawks, 30-12 to take a 77-75 lead with 1:02 on the clock. A pair of Hawk free throws tied the game with 30 seconds left in regulation, before Geneseo missed a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded as the game went to overtime.

Geneseo (12-2, 6-1 SUNYAC) would outscore their hosts, 15-5 in the overtime, keyed by six points from Lyons and five points from Fedge as the Knights hit 8-of-9 free throws to to earn their sixth-straight win. A Decker three-pointer capped an 11-3 run to start the extra period for the Knights to put the game out of reach.

Senior guard Thomas Decker added 17 points, including 5-of-8 attempts from three-point range, while only committing two turnovers in an efficient performance running the point.

"I can't say enough about Thomas' performance tonight," said head coach Steve Minton. "He did so much that doesn't show up on the stat sheet and played with so much heart. He played like a senior and led his team to this win."

Tied, 27-27, with 8:01 to play in the first half, New Paltz (6-10, 3-6 SUNYAC) used a 13-2 spurt to take a 40-29 lead with just over three minutes to play in the half on its way to leading, 47-39, at intermission. The Hawks would increase their lead by outscoring the Knights 16-8 in the first seven minute of the second half, before the Knights started their comeback bid.

Continued Minton, "New Paltz played a great game. They had a game plan that we struggled with early on. We made some adjustments and toughed it out down the stretch."

Lyons finished the night hitting 8-of-12 field goals, as well as 8-of-9 free throws, while Fedge kept pace with an 8-of-13 showing from the field and a 7-of-8 night from the charity stripe.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, taking on host Oneonta at 4:00 p.m.
