St. Louis, Mo., Febuary 9, 2014 – The No. 4-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team inched closer to its third-straight University Athletic Association (UAA) title with a 94-80 win over Emory University Sunday afternoon at the WU Field House in St. Louis.

Washington U. extended its winning streak to 13 games and improved to 18-2 overall, 9-0 in the UAA. Emory falls to 13-7 overall, 5-4 in the UAA.

Washington U. hits the road for the third time in four weeks for a pair of games at Brandeis University, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. (ET), and New York University, Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. (ET). With a win at Brandeis Friday, the Bears would wrap up at least a share of their third-straight UAA title and fifth in the last six seasons.

Senior guard Alan Aboona scored a season-high 25 points and dished out seven assists in the win, while senior forward Chris Klimek had 25 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Tim Cooney also scored in double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Matt Palucki (nine points, six rebounds), junior forward Nick Burt (six points, nine rebounds) and junior guard David Fatoki (eight points, five rebounds) also contributed in the win.

Washington U. shot 54.2 percent (32-59) from the field, including 9-of-18 from three-point range. The Bears hit 21-of-33 from the free-throw line and outrebounded Emory 48-32.

The Bears broke open a 40-40 halftime tie by limiting Emory to 35.3 percent (12-34) shooting in the second half. Washington U. also shot 60.7 percent (17-28) from the field and hit 18-of-23 from the free-throw line in the second frame.

Washington U. put the lead into double figures at 60-49 with 12:08 to play after back-to-back threes by Aboona. His second three-pointer highlighted a 14-4 run for the Bears. Washington U.'s defense limited Emory to two field goals in a span of seven minutes. The Bears got the lead to 20 (83-63) with 5:57 to play after a pair of free-throws by Klimek.

Davis, the leading scorer in the UAA, finished with a season-high 36 points on 12-of-28 shooting from the field. He has scored in double figures in 19 of 20 games this season. St. Louis native McPherson Moore (11 points), Alex Foster (11) and Will Trawick (10) also scored in double figures for Emory, who hit 7-of-26 (26.9 percent) from three-point range in the loss.

A fast-pace opening half saw the Bears jump out to a seven-point advantage (15-8) with 15:27 remaining after a fast-break lay-up by Cooney. Emory answered back with a 12-3 run with four three-pointers to gain the lead back at 20-18. Jake Davis had three three-pointers during the run.

Fatoki provided a spark off bench for Washington U. just like he did in the 70-66 win over Emory in Atlanta Feb. 2. He canned his first three-pointer to give WUSTL the 29-28 lead, and then nailed a three with two seconds left on the shot clock to extend the lead to 35-29 with 5:12 left. Aboona added a three to give Washington U. its largest lead of the game at 38-29 with 3:20 left, but Emory outscored Washington U. 11-2 to end the half tied at 40-40.

Davis had 20 points in the first half on four three-pointers, including a three with six seconds left to tie the score. Washington U. shot 48.4 percent (15-31) from the field and hit 7-of-12 from three-point range. The Bears hit just 3-of-10 from the free-throw line, missing the front end of three one-and-ones.
