Chris Lesnansky poured in a career-high 30 points, including the go-ahead basket with 12 seconds to play, to give Colorado College a 70-69 victory over Texas Lutheran University on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena.
Lesnansky collected a pass from Tyler Jonas at the left edge of the lane, faked to his left, then spun to his right and put a bank shot over TLU junior forward Donte McGee, who was playing with four fouls.
"It felt good as soon as I let it go," Lesnansky said. "We were patient and took what their defense gave us."
On the Bulldogs' final possession, CC's defense trapped Joshua Alderman in the left corner, and his desperation shot from the baseline barely scraped the front of the iron.
Texas Lutheran led 67-64 with after Troy Griffith knocked down a short jumper with 2:22 remaining, but the Tigers answered with buckets by Ryan Milne and Justin Berardino to take the lead with 59 ticks left.
McGee put the Bulldogs ahead for the final time when he sank a pair of free throws with 31 seconds left. With one possession remaining, the Tigers worked their offense until Lesnansky worked himself free for the final bucket.
To make his day even more memorable, Lesnansky became the 19th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark, finishing the contest with 1,015. He converted on 11 of 17 shots, shooting better than 60 percent from the floor for the seventh time this season, and made eight of 12 free throws.
"That's the game I've been waiting for," said Lesnansky, who had tied his career best of 27 points twice this season. "It all comes down to my teammates. I got some great passes from Lonny (James Lonergan), Justin and Mills.
Milne finished with 19 points, five assists and three steals. Justin Berardino added eight points and three critical steals during the second half for CC, which improved to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Colorado College built a 34-24 lead after Lesnansky hit a short jumper from the left wing with 3:30 remaining in the first half, but the Bulldogs 17 of the next 22 points and took their first lead on a Garrett Wilkins layup 5:19 into the second half.
