Mariners Win First NAC Game

HENNIKER, N.H. -- Five different players reached double figures to lead Maine Maritime to an 87-75 win over New England College in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Mariners improved to 2-19 overall, 1-13 NAC, while the Pilgrims dropped to 6-15, 3-11.

Kyle Boucher scored a career-high 20 points, on 9 of 11 shooting, to lead Maine Maritime. Tyler Chiasson scored 10 points and dished out nine assists, Dylan Price added 16 and Jason Hatch and Brad Reed posted 12 points each. Tyler Gilson grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Malachi Davis and Dezron Wilson each finished with 17 points for the Pilgrims. Robin Wilson put in 14 points and grabbed seven boards, while Jonathan Byrnes chipped in 11 points for NEC.
Maine Maritime jumped out to the early six point lead before the NEC used an 8-0 run to grab its first lead of the game, 11-8 at the 14 minute mark. NEC took its only lead of the half, 13-12, on a Wilson layup with 12 minutes left in the opener. The teams battled over the next several minutes before Boucher gave the Mariners a 38-28 lead with four minutes left. NEC climbed back within four, 38-34, before Price went coast-to-coast to give MMA a 40-34 lead at halftime.

The Pilgrims would continue to chip away early in the second half taking their first lead of the half at the 14 minute mark, 53-52. Maine Maritime answered with consecutive Hatch threes and never trailed the remainder of the game. The Mariners shot 59% in the half, including 5 of 8 from behind the arc, to secure the victory.

Maine Maritime picked up 37 points for its bench and scored 40 in the paint.

The Mariners return to action Friday, 7:30 p.m., hosting Johnson State.
