Hornets Stumble in 84-72 Loss at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, VA—The Lynchburg College men's basketball team got into foul trouble early as Randolph-Macon College pounded the paint for an 84-72 victory Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Starting point guard Lyndon White picked up two quick fouls for the Hornets and was held to a mere three minutes of action in the first half. Harry West came off the bench for seven points to keep LC within five points, 41-36, at halftime.

Both of Lynchburg's big men had two fouls at halftime and the Yellow Jackets continued to get the ball into the paint to start the second. Randolph-Macon forward Andre Simon was hard to contain, scoring 16 points while going 8-for-11 from the charity stripe.

Lynchburg attempted a comeback early in the second half, trailing 50-44 with 15:37 remaining. Daniel Rowe's three-point try was off the mark, but Omar Kemp managed to score the offensive rebound. A Manny Hernandez layup on LC's next possession got the game within two points.

Chris Hamilton collected a pair of second chance points on R-MC's next time up the floor before Rowe hit his second three-pointer of the game to get the back within a point, 52-51, with 13:17 left to play.

The Yellow Jackets responded with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes to pull away.

Hernandez finished with 19 points and five rebounds for the Hornets while Alex Graves ended with 18 points and six boards.

Five Yellow Jackets joined Simon in double figures. Lamont Moore had 15 points and 11 boards for Randolph-Macon (17-4/11-1) while Joe Hassell and Akeem Holmes ended with 13 and 11 points respectively. Marcus Badger and Connor Sullivan had 10 points each.

Lynchburg (15-6/8-4) returns home Wednesday for an ODAC matchup with Washington and Lee University (6-15/3-9). Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
