Hobart controlled the glass (38-25), leading to a 15-5 advantage in second chance points. The Statesmen limited their turnovers to just seven and three of those came in the final two minutes with Hobart's reserves on the floor. The Statesmen also made as many free throws (15) as the Raptors attempted.
 
Senior Richie Bonney led the home team with his 16th double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior Joe Gibbons chipped in 15 points and junior Connor Rehbaum added 10 points and eight boards. Junior Trey Blanding contributed nine points and a game-high five assists.
 
Bard got a game-high 21 points from senior Lamar Powell. Senior Ben Kane and first-year Alex Fabean-Scotch both had nine points.
 
Hobart never trailed in the contest and the Raptors only managed to tie the game once, at 15-all eight minutes in, but the Statesmen responded with nine straight points to retake the lead for good. Blanding (5) and Bonney (4) accounted for all of the Hobart scoring during the run.
 
Bard whittled the Statesmen lead down to three by halftime, trailing 29-26 at the break.
 
Powell made a layup to open the second half scoring to make it a 1-point game, but Hobart took control of the contest with a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes. Bonney and Gibbons both recorded five points during the game-changing surge. The Raptors, meanwhile, went stone cold from the floor, going more nearly seven minutes between field goals. By the time Siondueh Burnette made a jumper with 11:26 remaining, Hobart had built a 46-32 lead.
 
A traditional 3-point play by Gibbons with 5:39 to go gave the Statesmen their biggest lead of the night, 62-42. It was still a 20-point lead after first-year Nate Robinson made a pair of free throws with 2:58 to go, but Bard ended the game on a 12-1 run to make the final margin just nine points.
 
Hobart will be home again at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, when the Statesmen host Vassar (15-4, 7-3). Bard heads to RIT tomorrow for a 4 p.m. start.
