Oberlin, Ohio – Senior Emmanuel Lewis made an acrobatic layup with 11 seconds left to play, and the Yeomen created two turnovers in the closing moments to get past the 23rd-ranked Tigers of DePauw University, 62-60, on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.
 
Following Lewis' make, the Tigers threw the ball out of bounds with just three seconds to go. However, the Yeomen turned it over on the ensuing inbounds play. The Tigers corralled the loose ball and appeared to tie the game on a layup, but timeout had been called by the bench before the shot. With just half a second left on the clock, Lewis intercepted the Tigers' inbounds pass to end the game.
 
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Yeomen and marked the third straight year the teams have split their season series.
 
Oberlin had one of its most balanced scoring attacks of the season as four players finished in double figures. Sophomore center Randy Ollie was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor as he matched senior Geoff Simpson with a team-high 13 points. The backcourt pairing of Jesse Neugarten and Jack Poyle each added 10 points, while Lewis checked in with seven.
 
Oberlin trailed 60-58 with 2:43 left to play and would ultimately tie the game at 60 on an Ollie layup, marking the eighth time in the game the two teams were even.
 
Oberlin trailed 31-25 at the half, but was never out of striking distance. A 3-pointer from Poyle made a it 54-52 Yeomen advantage with 7:14 remaining and from that point on no more than two points separated the two foes the rest of the way.
 
The Tigers (14-5, 9-3 NCAC) also had four players in double digits with Michael Wilkison leading the way with a game-high 14 points. As a team, DePauw shot 48-percent with 24 makes on 50 attempts.
 
Oberlin (6-13, 3-9 NCAC), which was an identical 24-of-50 shooting, won the rebounding battle 31-24 and out-scored DePauw 34-26 in the paint.
 
The Yeomen are back in action on Wednesday night when Denison University comes to town for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
