Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team earned an important Skyline Conference victory on Saturday with a 78-68 home win over visiting Old Westbury. The Dolphins placed four players in double-figures, including Brandon Serrano (Hempstead, N.Y.) who led all scorers with 23 points.

Mount Saint Vincent got out to a quick lead on Saturday, scoring 12 of the first 17 points in the game. Consecutive three-pointers from Jesse Regina (Staten Island, N.Y.) moved the Dolphins in front 12-5 just 4:04 into the contest.

The Dolphins held a lead as large as nine points in the first seven minutes of play, before Old Westbury cut its deficit to 24-22 after a 10-3 run covering just over four minutes. The Dolphins converted one field goal over that span, while Old Westbury went 3-for-4 from three-point distance. Omari Trebuse, Dom Bostick and Ray Parker all hit three-pointers for the Panthers over the run.

Mount Saint Vincent would maintain its lead in the game until an Andrew Andries lay-in got the visitors in front 29-28 with 3:59 left in the opening period. The Dolphins would get back in front by three after a pair of Serrano free-throws, but a Trebuse triple at the 2:40 mark got the game tied at 32-32 at the 2:40 mark.

Serrano moved the Mount back in front by a bucket just 20 seconds later, but Bostick canned a triple at the horn to send Old Westbury to the break with a slim 35-34 advantage.

Neither team had a player score in double-figures in the first half, with both teams shooting better than 40-percent. The Dolphins finished the frame 14-for-31 overall and 4-for-7 from long distance and Old Westbury was 12-for-28 and 7-for-14 from behind the arc. The Dolphins outscored Old Westbury 18-8 in the paint before the intermission.

Old Westbury extended its lead to a high of nine points at the 13:37 mark of the second half when Andries converted a layup to put the Panthers in front 49-40. The lead would stand until Anthony Woods (West Palm Beach, Fla.) capped a 14-4 run with a three-point play to move the Dolphins back in front 54-53 at the midway point of the half. Woods scored six points in the run, as the Mount went 6-for-8 from the floor over the 3:19 stretch.

The visitors would regain the lead briefly on a Floyd Leroy lay-in, but the Dolphins picked the lead back up for good in the game on a layup from Serrano with 6:16 left in regulation.  The bucket started a 15-3 run covering nearly six minutes that saw the Mount take its largest lead of the game, 72-60, with 1:14 left. The Panthers went 1-for-8 from the field over the run and 0-for-4 from three-point range.

Following a tip-in from Serrano to give the Dolphins their largest lead, the Panthers could get only as close as eight points in the final minute as the Mount closed out its fourth league win of the season.

Mount Saint Vincent shot a blistering 51.7-percent from the floor after halftime, scoring 44 points. The Dolphins finished the game at 48.3-percent and held a 40-24 edge in paint points.

Kahlil Shorter (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached a career-high with 14 points after going 5-for-8 from the field, including two three-pointers. He hauled in five rebounds and added four assists. Regina canned three triples for the Mount on his way to 12 points, matching his career-high, and Antonio Johnson (Fort Johnson, N.Y.) used a 5-for-6 effort from the free-throw line to net 11 points. Johnson grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for the Mount and led the team with five assists.

Mount Saint Vincent stands at 6-13 overall and 4-8 in the league and will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Yeshiva. Tip-off with the Maccabees is set for 8:00 p.m.
