VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan outscored Bridgewater 7-1 over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 34-27 lead and the Marlins led the rest of the way for a 69-58 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball contest Thursday evening.

The Eagles (9-8, 4-5 in the ODAC) wasted another strong performance by junior forward Ed Reddick. Reddick scored exactly half of Bridgewater's points as he matched his career-high, set this past Saturday against Lynchburg, with 29 points. The 6-4 forward made 11-of-20 shots from the floor and 7-of-10 from the foul line.

Bridgewater's Tavis Stapleton scored the first four points of the game, but the Marlins responded with a 7-0 spurt.

The Eagles then used an 8-0 run, to take a 12-7 lead. Jumpers by Reddick and Zach Walton put the Eagles on top before another bucket by Reddick and a jumper by Aaron Adams gave Bridgewater a five-point lead with 12:48 left in the first half.

A jumper by Colby Heard and two foul shots by Sedric Nady made it a one-point game before a jumper by Stapleton made the score 14-11.

The Marlins (14-4, 7-2 in the ODAC) tied the score with a Nady 3-ball, but Kenneth Waugh hit two foul shots to keep the Eagles on top by two. The Marlins struck again from long range, this time with Aaron Clark making the 3-pointer for a 17-16 Marlins advantage.

Two foul shots by Daniel McClain and a layup by Reddick put the Eagles back on top by three, but another 3-pointer by Clark tied the score at 20-20 with 7:25 left.

A jumper by Kyle Welty put the Eagles up by two before a three-point play by DJ Woodmore switched the lead back to the Marlins, 23-22.

Bridgewater regained the lead on a jumper by Reddick, but that turned out to be the last time the Eagles would hold the upper hand.

A jumper by Kaelin Poe and a dunk from Trent Batson put the Marlins on top 27-24 with 5:27 left in the half.

Romie Powell's short jumper at the 5:17 cut the Marlins lead to one, but that would be Bridgewater's final bucket of the opening half.

Three foul shots and a layup by Woodmore pushed the Marlins margin to six, 32-26. Stapleton hit 1-of-2 at the line for the Eagles, but Heard made two free throws with 44 seconds left in the half as Virginia Wesleyan took a 34-27 lead at the half.

The Marlins pushed the lead to double figures in the first two minutes of the second half and the Eagles were unable to respond. Virginia Wesleyan led by as many as 17 points before settling for the final 69-58 victory.

Reddick provided most of the Eagles offense in the final 20 minutes, scoring 21 of his team's 31 points. The Eagles made just nine field goals in the second half, with Reddick connecting for seven of those. Daniel McClain scored with 18:49 left in the half and added a jumper with 2:39 remaining. Reddick was the only Bridgewater to score from the field in between McClain's buckets.

Woodmore scored 18 points to lead the Marlins and Heard added 14 off the bench.

The Marlins won the battle of the boards with Batson pulling down 10 rebounds and Heard adding nine. Stapleton led the Eagles with 11 rebounds and Reddick added seven.

The Eagles will look to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday afternoon when it travels to Lexington to meet Washington and Lee. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
