Farmingdale State - 66, Maritime - 51
Throggs Neck, N.Y. - Senior guard Timothy Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) and senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) scored 21 and 19 points, respectively as Farmingdale State earned a 66-51 road victory at Maritime on Wednesday evening.
The Rams (12-5, 8-2) jumped out to an early 14-7 lead and used a 9-2 run to extend the advantage to 23-9 with 10:38 remaining in the first half. After six straight Maritime (3-15, 1-10) points, Farmingdale State responded with eight unanswered to open up their largest lead of the game at 31-15. The Rams took a 36-22 lead into the break as Lawes had a first half double-double with 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and 11 rebounds.
After the Privateers pulled within 10, 37-27, a 10-3 Farmingdale State run increased the lead to 40-27 midway through the second half.
Maritime used three straight 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 54-47 with 4:39 left on the clock, before Johnson connected on a pair at the free-throw line and hit a 3 to bring the Rams lead back to double-digits.
The Farmingdale State defense held the Privateers to only two points the remainder of the game to earn the 66-51 Skyline Conference victory.
Johnson scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc, while Lawes tallied 19 points (8-of-11), had 12 rebounds and four blocks.
Sophomore guard Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J.) scored a team-high 14 points for Maritime.
The Rams next will host #13 Purchase in a conference game on Saturday, February 1st at 1:00 p.m.
