NASHUA, N.H. – Mount Ida got standout offensive performances from three of their men's basketball players on Wednesday night, but were unable to balance their attack and dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game 70-63 to Rivier University at the Muldoon Gymnasium.
Junior Treace Macklin (Brockton, MA) led the Mustangs with 22 points and 8 rebounds, while freshman Ethan Dujon (Warwick, RI) matched his offensive production with 22 points of his own. Sophomore Michael Joseph (Windsor, Conn.) scored a career high 14 points off the bench, but the rest of the team combined for just five points, and Mount Ida gave away a 36-33 halftime lead.
Senior Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) scored a team high 20 points and a game high 14 rebounds for the Raiders while junior Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) added 16 points.
Senior Nick Walch (Dedham, MA) and sophomore Kywane Thomas (Hartford, CT) both knocked down four field goals for 11 points, with Thomas adding three steals and Poitras in on three blocks and three assists.
Macklin shot 7-13 from the field, including 4-5 from behind the three-point line and also co-led the Mustangs with three assists. This is the second time he has scored 20+ points in a game this season, as he netted a season-high 24 in Mount Ida's season opening win over Roger Williams.
Dujon has hit double-digits in eight of his first nine games with the team, and eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the first time as a Mustang.
Mount Ida freshman Nathan Bueno (Methuen, Mass.) had four steals in the game, while Patrick Wenz (Long Island, N.Y.) grabbed five rebounds and Kenny Jean (Dorchester, Mass.) had three assists, four rebounds and a block.
For the Raiders, Nelson lead all players with five assists.
With the win, Rivier improves their record to 6-12 overall and 3-8 in the GNAC. Mount Ida falls to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
Mount Ida returns to action on Saturday as they host Suffolk in a 1pm GNAC tilt.
Next up for Rivier will be Norwich University on Saturday, February 1st. The GNAC contest will begin at 3pm in Northfield, Vermont.
