Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team suffered an 86-58 loss against the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.

With the loss, BC drops to 5-12 overall on the year and 2-7 in the CUNYAC, while CSI improves to 15-2 overall on the season and remains perfect in conference play at 9-0. The Dolphins have now swept the season series against the Bulldogs, as Staten Island defeated Brooklyn, 77-58, back on December 6th at the West Quad Center.

The first 10 minutes of the opening half featured back-and-forth action as both teams combined for two ties and five lead changes.

Following a three-point play from junior Valon Djombalic that gave Brooklyn a 12-10 lead at the 12:19 mark of the half, Staten Island went on a quick 8-0 run to go ahead 18-12 with 9:48 remaining before the halftime break.

BC would answer with five straight points from sophomore Jamel Gist that cut the visitors deficit to one, 18-17; however, that's as close as the Bulldogs would get as the Dolphins would eventually build a double digit advantage, leading by as many as 12, 33-21. CSI would go on to take an eight-point, 36-28, halftime lead into the locker room.

The Dolphins' lead would not be threatened in the second half, as CSI took full advantage of the charity stripe, going to the line on 32 occasions, while converting 22 attempts. Staten Island shot 41.9% (13-31) from the field in the second half, while Brooklyn was held to just 34.4% (11-32) from the field, as the home team would outscore its guest, 50-30, en route to cruising to its 86-58 victory.

For the game, Staten Island outscored Brooklyn 40-20 in the paint and also scored 30 points off of 17 BC turnovers. CSI also won the battle of the glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 52-32 and scoring 19 second chance points.

Gist finished with a team-high 13 points for Brooklyn, while junior Jai Kellman added 12 points off the bench. Classmate Justin Staton grabbed a team-high six boards, while junior Steven Diaz netted nine points going 3-for-9 from beyond the arc.

For Staten Island, Jon Chadwick-Myers led all scorers with a game-high 23 points coming off the bench, while Javon Cox registered a double-double with 18 points and game-best 12 rebounds. Bloochy Magloire added 12 points off the bench.

Overall, Brooklyn shot 36.5% (23-63) from the field, including 25.0% (5-20) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 58.3% (7-12) from the line.

Staten Island shot 44.3% (27-61) from the field, including 28.6% (4-14) from three. The Dolphins shot 65.1% (28-43) from the stripe.

Brooklyn will continue with its conference schedule as the Bulldogs will travel to borough rival Medgar Evers College on Wednesday, January 29th. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 pm start time.
