Brooklyn Gets Past Stockton, 63-55

Galloway, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team picked up a key non-conference victory on Monday afternoon as the Bulldogs defeated the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College, 63-55, at the Sports Center in Galloway, NJ.

With the win, BC improves to 5-11 overall on the season, while Stockton drops to 13-3 overall on the year.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was junior Jai Kellman, who netted a game-high 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field. Sophomore Egzon Gjonbalaj added 16 points, while junior Valon Djombalic grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds.

Stockton was paced by Nnamdi Usuwa's team-high 14 points, while Rameel Johnson registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Josh Blamon also finished with 12 points.

For the game, BC shot 42.9% (24-56) from the field, while shooting just 27.8% (5-18) from three. Brooklyn on went 10-for-15 (66.7%) from the free throw line, all during the second half to help propel the visitors to the win.

The Osprey's offense struggled throughout the game, as the Bulldogs' stout defense held Stockton to just 30.4% (21-69) shooting from the field, including 16.1% (5-31) from beyond the arc. The home team also shot just 57.1% (8-14) from the charity stripe. Brooklyn also scored 22 points off of 17 turnovers.

The opening half saw five lead changes and three ties, as the Bulldogs would eventually take a seven point, 31-24, halftime advantage. After a pair of free throws from Josh Blamon broke a 10 all tie to give the home team a slim 12-10 lead with 13:03 remaining before intermission, the Bulldogs rattled off 11 straight points to take a nine-point, 21-12, lead at the 7:19 mark. Kellman sparked the run scoring six of the 11 points, as Brooklyn would never trail in the period again en route to taking the halftime lead into the locker room.

Brooklyn would continue to push its lead in the second half, scoring the first two baskets in the period to go up by 11, 35-24, their largest of the game, with 18:32 left in the game.

The Ospreys would not go down lightly, as the home team answered with a 13-2 run to tie the game at 37 all at the 12:14 mark. Stockton would be unable to retake the lead as the Bulldogs would answer with a three-point play from Egzon Gjonbalaj.

Stockon would later tie the game for a second time in the half on a three from Kevin Johnson, tying the game at 49-49 with 5:39 remaining on the clock. Brooklyn would once again keep the Ospreys at arm's length as the Bulldogs outscored the home team 14-6 to close out the game to take home the 63-55 victory.

Brooklyn will return to action on Saturday, January 25th, as the Bulldogs will travel across the Verrazano Bridge to take on conference rival Staten Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
