EAU CLAIRE (January 25, 2014) - After dropping their two previous games by a combined six points, the Blue Devil's offense was firing on all cylinders Saturday night, running over Eau Claire on the way to a 89-67 victory.

Stout set season highs in points and field goal percentage, as they shot a red-hot 64 percent (32-50) from the field. The Blue Devils (10-8, 5-4 WIAC) also had four players score in double figures, only the third time this season that has occured.

Leading the way for the Blue Devils were seniors Alex Oman(Lake Elmo, Minn.) and Jimmy Whitehead (La Crosse). Oman scored 26 points on 8-12 shooting, including 4-6 from downtown and 6-6 from the charity stripe while Whitehead didnt miss a shot, going 8-8 from the field and 5-5 from the line for 21 points.

The first half featured four lead changes, but all occured within the first five minutes of play. The Blue Devils trailed 3-2 at 19:09 and 6-5 at 17:27. After going up 7-6 on a Whitehead layup with 16:29 in the half, Stout wouldnt trail the rest of the night.

In what looked like a close game at first, Stout and Eau Claire went back-and-forth over the first eight minutes. Trailing 15-8, the Blugolds (8-10, 1-8 WIAC) ripped off a 7-2 run, cutting Stout's lead to 17-15.

The next eight minutes would be all Blue Devils though, as Stout completely took control of the game with a 23-1 run, with Whitehead, Oman, and Josh Kosloske (Sr, Oakfield) providing all of the scoring.

Whitehead got things started, scoring 7 straight points for Stout, starting with a pair of free throws. After a Blugold turnover, he knocked in a jumper, then capped off his run by cashing in on an and-one situation, knocking down the free throw to push Stout's lead to 24-15.

Kosloske kept things rolling with an offensive board and a tip-in, followed by an Oman steal and fastbreak layup. An Oman three pointer the next trip down gave Stout a 31-15 advantage with 8:36 to go in the half.

Kosloske finished with 12 points and 5 rebounds off the bench, going 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc.

Eau Claire's Jared Miller hit 1-2 free throws after a Whitehead foul to cut the lead to 31-16. Four straight points by Kosloske pushed the lead to 19. A coast-to-coast layup by Whitehead gave Stout a 21 point lead before Kosloske dropped in a three-pointer for a 40-16 advantage with 4:41 remaining in the half.

The Blugolds closed out the half with a 10-7 run, going into the break behind 47-26.

The second half featured much of the same, as Stout's lead fell below 20 points only twice, both times in the first two minutes of the half.

Stout's biggest lead came at 13:55, when an 8-0 run highlighted by five points by Jay Higgins (Sr, Maple Grove, Minn.) pushed the margin to 32 points. On the night,  Higgins finished with 10 points on 4-5 shooting.

Aaron Jenny grabbed a team-high six rebounds and dished out a game-high 4 assists. Oman, Whitehead and Adam Wadzinksi (Sr, Verona) each had 2 steals for the Blue Devils.

For the Blugolds, Adam Hjelter led the way with 19 points, going 7-11 from the field and 5-8 from downtown. Kurtis Moody added 16 points and Lewis Mau had 14 and 9 rebounds.

The Blue Devils won the rebounding battle, pulling down 33 (12 offensive) to Eau Claires 21 (11 offensive).

Up next, Stout will return home for a match-up against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, January 29 before going back on the road to take on UW-Whitewater Saturday, February 1.
