John Ivy Scores Game-Winner at Oneonta

Senior John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) scored 30 points, including the game-winning basket in the final seconds as The College at Brockport defeated Oneonta 81-79 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on Friday night in Oneonta, NY.

Brockport (13-1, 7-0 SUNYAC) opened up with a quick 8-0 run. Dorian Hayden (East Northport, NY/Northport) got the Golden Eagles on the board first with a layup at 19:23.

Oneonta (8-8, 5-4 SUNYAC) answered back with their own 8-0 run to tie things up at 14:56. A three pointer from the Red Dragons put them ahead, but Ivy quickly drained a three on the other end of the court to tie things back up.

A layup from Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenedehowa) pushed Brockport's lead out to seven with 8:10 to play in the first half.

Ivy drained another three pointer for the Golden Eagles, giving them their largest lead of the game, 12 points at just over the three minute mark.

The Red Dragons finished the half outscoring Brockport 8-2, cutting the Golden Eagles lead to just four points heading into halftime.

Oneonta started up scoring in the second half with two free throws helping to bring them to within two points of Brockport.

Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) hit a shot in the paint, pushing the Golden Eagles back out to a 10 point lead at 15:49.

Oneonta quickly chipped away at the Brockport lead and with 12:45 remaining in the game, the Red Dragons took a one point lead, their first of lead of the second half.

Freshman Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) came up with a big three pointer at 11:54 to help put Brockport back in control. Two more three's from Bobby Bell (Rochester, NY/East) and one each from Ivy and Lee put the Golden Eagles back up by 10 points.

Once again, Oneonta was able to chip away at the Brockport lead. The Red Dragons came back and tied things up twice in the final five minutes.

With only 30 seconds left, Oneonta hit three free throws to give them a one point lead. After a missed three pointer from the Golden Eagles, the Red Dragons looked to be handing Brockport its first conference loss of the season. However, Caruhers and Ivy had other plans.

In the final 10 seconds of the game, Caruthers stole the ball off the Red Dragons and got the ball to Ivy who was fouled hard but managed to finish the shot and sink the free throw to put Brockport ahead by two points with only three seconds to play. The Golden Eagles were able to hang on for the win as time expired.

As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 46.9% (30-64) from the floor, 50% (13-26) from long range and 61.5% (8-13) from the free throw line.

Ivy led the way on offense with 30 points. Lee and senior Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearny) each added 12 points, while Lee pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and Coyle tallied three blocked shots.
