ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — It was a tale of two halves for the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium. The Blue Jays shot well in the first half, but could not find the shooting touch in the second half as they went on to fall to Lycoming, 69-59, in Commonwealth Conference action. Lee Eckert paced the Jays with 11 points.

Joe Schwalm connected on two three-pointers and Andrew Mantz had a layup and split a pair at the foul to give Elizabethtown (7-10, 4-6 CC) a quick 9-0 in the first three and a half minutes of the game.

Ryan Borzager drained a trey and Eckert was good on two layups and a jumper as the Jays' lead hit double figures at ten, 23-13, with 6:11 to go in the half.

Schwalm's third three of the half came at 4:54 and E-town's advantage was at 11, but Lycoming (8-8, 4-6 CC) used a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to tie the game up at 28-28.

Tyler Simpkiss finished the half with five straight points for the Blue Jays, giving the hosts a three-point cushion at the break, 33-30.

Out of the locker room, both teams traded baskets and free throws over the first six minutes of the second half. Tied 41-41, the Warriors used eight straight made free throws to open their lead to eight with under ten minutes left in the game. Over that stretch, E-town went 0-for-8 from the floor.

Borzager's three and two foul shots from Tommy James had the Blue Jays within seven points with 7:29 left to go in the contest, but the shooting woes continued and the fouls began to pile up. Lycoming shot 19-for-23 from the charity stripe in the second half. EC was 11-for-14, but just 1-for-14 from beyond the arc.

Jake Sweger finished with a team-high eight boards for Elizabethtown. Simpkiss joined Eckert in double figures with ten points. Schwalm had nine and two assists.

After shooting 39 percent in the first half, the Blue Jays were just 7-for-41(17.1%) in the final 20 minutes. Kevin Anthony led the Warriors with 22 points, including 14-for-16 at the foul line. Malcolm Covington, Patrick Dougher, and Michael Rudy were also double-digit scorers for Lycoming.

The men's basketball team heads to Messiah on Wednesday, January 29, for an 8 p.m. showdown with the Falcons. Messiah defeated the Jays in overtime back in early December, 71-64.
