BUFFALO, NY—Plattsburgh (12-3/6-2) and Buffalo State (7-8/3-5) combined to knock down 19 3-pointers and the visiting Cardinals held on for an 87-83 victory in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.
Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) led Buffalo State with 24 points and 15 rebounds, and Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) netted 20 points. Chris Boyd (Buffalo/East) hit five of the Bengals' nine 3-pointers and finished with a career-best 16 points off the bench, and Legree Kirkland (New York/Frederick Douglas VII) chipped in 10 points.
Buffalo State jumped out to an early lead, but Plattsburgh mounted a run to claim a 32-20 advantage midway through the opening half. The Bengals used a late surge to close the gap to 45-43 at halftime. The lead changed hands six times in the second half, before Plattsburgh took the lead for good with 6:12 remaining. The Cardinals pushed their lead to 79-70 with two minutes left and held the Bengals off down the stretch.
Plattsburgh overcame 21 turnovers by outrebounding the Bengals 41-34. The Cardinals also shot 49-percent from the field, including hitting 53-percent (10 of 19) from beyond the arc. Plattsburgh was also 25 of 30 at the charity stripe. Buffalo State shot 46-percent and was 9 of 25 from long range, but only hit 12 of 22 at the line.
Buffalo State will play another home game tomorrow against Potsdam at 4 p.m.
