LeTourneau Comeback Falls Short in 60-54 Loss to Louisiana College

LeTourneau University men's basketball sophomore Ladaria Brown had his second double double – 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds – in a 60-54 loss to Louisiana College on Thursday in Pineville.

Louisiana College (9-5, 9-3 ASC) scored the final six points after Brown had hit a 3 pointer with 49 seconds to tie the game at 54 with 49 seconds to play.

Five of the six for Louisiana College came from Kevin Cottonham, who hit his only 3 pointer of the night with 27 seconds to play that put the home team ahead, 57-54. He finished the night with 12 points and was joined in double figures by Doc Welch, who scored a team-high 17.

Joining Brown in double figures for LeTourneau (3-12, 2-10 ASC) was junior Aaron Frizell, who had 11 points on the strength of a pair of 3 pointers. Frizell also had five rebounds and four assists in the loss for the YellowJackets.

The two teams clamped down on the defensive end as LeTourneau held LC to 31.1% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Wildcats by a 45-37 margin. The score was tied twice and the lead exchanged hands on six occasions.

LeTourneau found itself behind as much as 16 in the second half, 42-26 with 12:03 to play.  However, the resilient YellowJackets failed to concede and rallied with a 28-12 spurt to tie the game at 54. In the spurt, 12 of the 28 came from Brown to bring the YellowJackets back into the contest.

The YellowJackets will continue its road trip on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tilt against Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., who they edged 60-57 on a last-second 3 pointer by Chris Hynes in Longview on December 5th.
