Chester, PA - Brad Bolen and David Fernandez combined for 60 points on Wednesday to lead No. 17 Messiah College to a 95-87 win over Widener University. Bolen scored a career-high 33 points on 12-18 shooting to lead the Falcons, with Fernandez close behind with 27 points of his own. He shot 11-16 from the field, with he and Bolen helping Messiah shoot an incredible 62.1% for the game.
The win moved Messiah to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the Commonwealth. Widener fell to 8-8 overall and just 2-6 in the conference.
The Falcons took an 11-8 lead with 16:22 left in the first-half and didn't look back. They led the rest of the way, increasing their lead to as many as 15 points before halftime. Widener kept the game close, however, using a 13-0 run to end the first-half to make it a two point game (41-39) at the break.
In the second-half Messiah again increased their lead to double-figures, leading by as many as 14 points. Widener did cut their deficit to a three-point margin twice in the final minutes before the Falcons sealed the win from the field and free-throw line.
