RADNOR, Pa. – Though the temperatures outside the Dixon Center fell below zero, the Cabrini men's basketball team warmed up Nerney Field House tonight with a 92-68 victory over Neumann University. The No. 3 Cavaliers improved to 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with the win.
The trio of senior Fran Rafferty, junior Aaron Walton-Moss and freshman Brennan McCann combined for 69 of Cabrini's 92 points, including 9-17 from three point range. Walton-Moss led the way with 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Rafferty connected on 5-9 from deep, pairing 25 points and eight rebounds on the night. McCann posted career highs of 17 points and five rebounds to go with three assists.
The Cavaliers took control in the early going, using an 11-0 spurt to build an 18-7 lead just five minutes into the game. The Knights tried to climb back into the game, cutting their deficit to five points before a Cabrini 9-3 spurt extended the lead to 12 points. Rafferty's fifth three pointer of the night came just before the halftime buzzer as the Blue and White took a 49-29 lead into the break.
Cabrini showed no let-up in the second half as it shot 53.3% from the field and 11-14 from the free throw line. It also dominated the glass, to the tune of a 26-14 rebound margin.
For the game, the Blue and White connected on over 54% from the floor, hit 11 three pointers and drained 17-20 free throw attempts. The Cavaliers also built a +17 rebound margin, while holding Neumann to just 38% shooting, including 5-18 from three point range. The Knights also struggled from the line, converting just nine of its 21 trips to the charity stripe.
Senior Jon Miller grabbed a game-high 10 boards to go with his six points, including a crowd-raising one handed jam. Freshman Matt Forrest added eight points, four rebounds and three assists in second career start.
Senior Mark Blount led the Knights (11-6, 6-4 CSAC) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Kevin Green added 16 points and senior Reggie Coleman 12.
The Cavaliers will hit the road for their next three games, starting Saturday when they travel to Keystone College (6-8, 3-4 CSAC). The rematch of the 2013 CSAC championship game is slated for 3:00 p.m.
