White has near Triple-Double as Hornets Down 'Cats 78-66
LYNCHBURG, VA—Freshman Lyndon White flirted with only the second triple-double in school history Saturday as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team defeated crosstown rival, Randolph College, 78-66 Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
White got off to a fast start, picking up six points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Hornets jumped ahead 15-12 five minutes into the game.
Manny Hernandez connected on a three-pointer to push the Lynchburg lead to 18-12. Seth Wimbish and Lucas Smith answered for Randolph to get it back to within two points.
The two rivals went back and forth over the next several minutes with LC leading 21-18 with 10:41 remaining in the first following a pair of Mike Ehilegbu free throws.
Harry West made a layup on Lynchburg's next possession. Following an Alex Graves free throw and Hernandez jumper, White drove the length of the floor for a layup and 28-18 lead.
Randolph answered the Hornet 7-0 run with a 7-0 run itself to cut the lead back to three points, but the WildCats would get no closer.
White finished with 13 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and three steals. Zack Burnett led the Hornets with a career-high 18 points while Daniel Rowe contributed 13 off the bench.
Ehilegbu led all scorers with 22 points while leading the WildCats (9-7/3-4) with six rebounds. Evan Horn and Dylan Shiflett added 10 points each.
The Hornets (12-4/5-2) travel to Bridgewater College (9-6/4-3) Saturday for an important game in the ODAC standings. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
