CLINTON, Iowa (January 22, 2014) - Both teams were hot from the free throw line. Ashford University made a few more, especially down the stretch, and held off UW-Stout 71-69, Wednesday at Kehl Arena.

The Saints (16-7) made eight consecutive free throws in the final two minutes of the game to hold off a hard-charting Stout (8-9) team. Ashford made 24-of-28 free throws (85.7percent) and Stout made 20-of-23 (87.0 percent).

The score was tied at 26-26 at halftime and featured 12 different tied scores, the final time coming with 10-minutes, 20-seconds remaining in the game when Hank Kujak (So, Blair) tied the score at 45 all. Stout twice got as close as one point, and as far behind as six points throughout the remainder of the game.

Stout's Alex Oman (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) led Stout with 23 points - a season high - including seven points in the final 24 seconds of the game. Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse) seemed to shake off the effects of an injury he suffered nearly a month ago, scoring 21 points. Aaron Jenny (Sr, New London, Minn) added 11 points and Jay Higgins (Maple Grove, Minn) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Saints had four players in double figures, led by Damon Overton with a game-high 24 points. Overton was 14-of-15 from the line, including all six attempts in the final two minutes. Tevin Harris added 18 points, DeAndre Lowery with 12 points and Anthony Woods with 11 points.

The teams met earlier this season at the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Tournament, with Stout coming out on top, 56-41.

Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Jan. 25 at approximately 5 p.m..
