More news about: UW-Superior

Wednesday night proved to be a difficult one for the UW-Superior men's basketball team.  And one look at the final statistics of their game against UW-River Falls provided a full reason why.

The Falcons racked up 22 assists while committing just two turnovers and had four players score in double-figures on the way to a 92-73 win over the Yellowjackets at the Karges Center in River Falls.

In dropping their second straight game, the Yellowjackets fell to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in conference action while UW-River Falls upped their season mark to 7-10 while also going to 2-6 in WIAC play.

The Yellowjackets started well in the opening minute, overcoming a 2-0 deficit by getting a layup from Bronson Byrne (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) and a three-pointer from Jarrod Peterson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) for a 5-2 advantage with 19:11 left in the first half.

A layup from Peterson cut the Yellowjackets' deficit to just 15-14 with 12:56 showing on the clock.

But the Falcons began to pull away from there, upping the margin over the next 9:12 to 37-27 on a three-pointer from Ben Gresmer with 3:44 remaining.

UW-River Falls then closed out the opening half on a 12-7 run to take a 49-34 lead into the intermission after a three-pointer by Berthene in the final 37 seconds of the frame.

The Yellowjackets started the second half on a run of their own, outscoring UW-River Falls 13-7 in the first 4:50 to cut the lead to 56-47 on a three-point play by Byrne with 15:10 left in regulation.

UW-Superior continued to chip away, trimming the deficit to 59-52 on a layup by Zach Schradle (Clayton, Wis./Clayton) at the 13:21 mark of the second half.

The Yellowjackets would get no closer however as the Falcons scored the next 10 points for a 69-52 edge after a three-pointer from Joe Deppe with 10:42 showing on the clock.

From there, UW-Superior would get no closer than 15 points as the Falcons knocked down 20-of-28 free throws for the contest.
