GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Andy Drescher came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-6 three-pointers, to key an 24-6 second-half run in a 79-63 victory over Fredonia, in SUNYAC play Tuesday night.
Geneseo (11-2, 5-1 SUNYAC) junior forward Gordon Lyons compiled 14 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season, while senior guard Connor Fedge added 12 points to lead the Knights to their fifth-straight victory.
"Andy really stepped up tonight and made some big baskets for us in some critical situations," said head coach Steve Minton. "We talked about not letting Fredonia have any easy baskets, but they did a good job of creating some open shots early on. That was the difference until we were able to put together that second-half run."
Trailing 36-31 at halftime, Fredonia (3-10, 0-6 SUNYAC) came out of the locker room on a 12-2 run to take a 43-40 lead with 13:28 on the clock. Trailing by one, 45-44, a minute later, Geneseo scored 14 unanswered points in the next five minutes to kick off the decisive stretch and build a 17-point lead, 68-51, with 5:24 on the clock. Drescher was a perfect 5-for-5 during the run, including a trio of three pointers, for 13 points.
Geneseo finished with a 40-22 edge in rebounding while also finishing the game shooting 55.6 percent from the field.
The Knights hit the road for a pair of conference matchups at New Paltz (8:00 p.m) and Oneonta (4:00 p.m.) this Friday and Saturday, respectively.
