Each team made eight 3-pointers but the University of Texas-Dallas went on to shoot 58.8% from the field en route to an 80-57 win over the LeTourneau University men's basketball team on Thursday night in Solheim Arena.

The two teams blistered the nets with its outside shooting but the difference lied in the fact that the visitors held the host YellowJackets to a 36.4% shooting effort from the field.

For the Comets, who improve to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the ASC, senior Kyle Schleigh and junior Nolan Harvey each hit three 3 pointers in the win. Schleigh finished with a double double with a 19 point, 11-rebound effort in 30 minutes of action. He was joined in double digits by three teammates including Harvey and junior Matthew Medell, who each had 14 and senior Carter Nash came off the bench to score 10.

LeTourneau, who falls to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in the ASC, was led by senior Justin Jones, who had his sixth double double of the season, with a 19 point, 14-rebound effort. He was joined in double digits by sophomore Ladaria Brown, who followed up Saturday's seven 3 pointer effort with four more on Thursday, scoring 13 points.

In the first half, six of the 15 field goals by the visitors were 3 pointers en route to a 40-29 lead. Meanwhile for LeTourneau six of its nine field goals were three pointers as they trailed at the intermission.

The Comets and YellowJackets were tied at five early into the contest but a 3 pointer by junior Chris McOmber put the visitors ahead by an 8-5 margin and for the rest of the contest. Six points would be the closet that LeTourneau would get when sophomore Chris Hynes hit a 3 pointer with 6:57 to play in the first 20 minutes that cut the deficit to 27-21.

LeTourneau would get to as close as 12, 46-34, but the Comets answered when senior Dmitriy Chernikov hit a 3 pointer to stretch the margin to 15 – 49-34 – with 17:25 left in the contest.

The YellowJackets will wrap up its four-game homestand to begin 2014 as they will host Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Solheim Arena.
