FREDONIA, NY— Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) had 20 points and eight rebounds to help Buffalo State (7-6/3-3) snap a three-game losing skid with an 81-74 victory over host Fredonia (3-10/0-6) in a SUNYAC game tonight at Steele Hall.
Chris Thompson (Far Rockaway/Channel View) added 17 points for the Bengals, and Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) had 16 points and four steals. Bradley Doyley (Brooklyn/HS for Sports Management) added eight points and six assists.
Fredonia jumped out to an early 19-10 lead, but Buffalo State pulled ahead 23-22 with 7:49 remaining in the first half and never trailed again. After the Bengals led 39-34 at the intermission, Fredonia cut the margin to one at 49-48 with 13 minutes remaining, and trailed by four entering the final minute, but could not catch the Bengals.
Fredonia connected on seven 3-pointers, outscoring the Bengals 21-6 from long range to stay in the contest. The Bengals held a 35-25 rebounding margin, however and netted 17 second-chance points, and also converted 19 Fredonia turnovers into 23 points.
Buffalo State will play its seventh-consecutive game away from the Sports Arena when it visits Brockport on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
