ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - For the first time since the 1997-98 season, the 14th-ranked Wesley College men's basketball team went on the road and defeated No. 16 St. Mary's, 75-72, on Saturday afternoon at the O'Brien ARC Arena in Capital Athletic Conference action.  Winner of eight-straight games, the Wolverines are now 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the CAC while the Seahawks fall to 11-4 on the year and 5-2 in league play.

With the score tied at 71 with 50 seconds left after St. Mary's Troy Spurrier (18 points) completed a three-point play the old fashioned way, Eric Selby used a screen and found David Langan alone for an easy layup with 35 ticks remaining to put Wesley back on top by two.

Seahawks wing Nick LaGuerre (ten points) then made just one of two free throws with 22 seconds left and after AJ Tilghman grabbed the rebound, he was immediately double teamed underneath the basket but found Langan who was immediately fouled with 16 seconds remaining.  A 79% free throw shooter entering the game, Langan then made both of his shots from the line to increase the lead to three points.

After a timeout by St. Mary's, the Seahawks brought Brendan McFall into the game, and the aggressive Wolverines defense forced a lengthy three-point shot which fell short, giving Wesley the victory over another Top 25 team.

Langan led all players with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting while sinking 2-of-3 from the charity stripe and blocking three shots.  Anthony Bowers scored an identical 18 points off the bench to notch a career-high.  Bowers also made all seven of his attempts from the line for the Wolverines who made 47.2% of their shots from the field and 22-of-26 (84.6%) from the line.

Quincy Pettiford (14 points) and Selby (11 points, five assists) also finished in double figures as Selby was 7-of-8 from the line.

As the final score read, the victory obviously did not come easy for Wesley.  The Wolverines in fact were down by nine points just under five minutes into the game as St. Mary's opened a 13-4 advantage.  Wesley climbed back immediately and earned its first lead of the game on a layup by Bowers with 4:15 left in the first half to make the score, 25-24.

Wesley went into the half with a 35-30 lead as Brandin Youngblood (seven points) grabbed a rebound and hit a jumper with two seconds left.  Coming out of the break, Youngblood missed a triple but Pettiford was right there for the tip in, giving the Wolverines their largest lead at 37-30 with 19:56 left in regulation.

St. Mary's would not lead for the remainder of the contest.

Wesley travels to Penn State Harrisburg for a 8 pm tipoff on January 22.
