CASTINE, Maine -- Colby-Sawyer dealt Maine Maritime a 73-50 loss in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Chargers improved to 7-7 overall, 6-2 NAC, while the Mariners fell to 1-12, 0-7.
Tyler Chiasson paced Maine Maritime with 10 points and Tyler Gilson grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Zach Bean netted a game-high 22 points to lead Colby-Sawyer and Mike Dias pumped in 10. Kyle Nelson turned in a double-double for the Chargers with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
After a Brad Reed three for MMA made it 6-5 Chargers, Colby-Sawyer used a 9-0 scoring run to lead 15-5 after Dias' layup with 12:28 left in the opener. The Mariners netted five straight on another trey from Reed and layup by Dylan Price to close the gap to 15-10 with 11:32 left. The Chargers went on to lead by as many as 20, 36-16, on a Bean three with 2:55 on the clock and took a 36-21 lead into halftime.
The Chargers took their largest lead, 65-33, on a Dias free throw with 9:33 left in the game. Maine Maritime got as close as 23, 67-44, after a Garett Libby three with 6:14 left in the game.
Colby-Sawyer finished the game 28 of 68 from the field, including 8 of 22 from behind the arc. The Chargers grabbed 43 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end, and committed 13 turnovers. Maine Maritime went 18 of 48 from the field, grabbed 31 rebounds and turned the ball over 20 times.
The Mariners return to action next weekend at Lyndon on Friday and Johnson on Saturday.
