Guilford Remains Perfect in ODAC Play With Rout of Emory & Henry

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College's men's basketball team improved to 5-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) for the first time in school history with an 81-59 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College Wednesday night.

Junior Matt McCarthy scored a game-high 20 points to pace four Quakers (11-3, 5-0 ODAC) in double-figure scoring. He made three three-pointers as Guilford matched its season high with 11 trifectas in 22 attempts (50%). Rookie Trever Hyatt shot four-of-six from beyond the arc en route to 16 points off the bench. Guilford made three three-pointers during a 20-6 spurt midway through the first half that opened a 37-17 edge 7:18 before halftime. The Quakers set a season high for points in a half and led 43-22 at the break.

Emory & Henry's Malcolm Green scored the second half's first basket, but Guilford reeled off 13 straight points, fueled by three-pointers by Jake Hopkins, Alston Furr and McCarthy. A Hopkins layup capped the burst and opened a 56-24 edge with 15:55 to play.

Hopkins finished with 11 points and Furr added 10 markers, plus four assists. Zeb Richardson scored seven points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Rookie Robbie Stokely had five points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Reserves Drew Henry and Stephen Brown both scored to lead Emory & Henry (2-12, 0-5 ODAC) in the Wasps' 12th straight setback. Guilford scored 18 points off of 11 Emory & Henry turnovers and held the Wasps to 31.9% shooting from the floor.

The Quakers visit nationally ranked league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday (1/18) afternoon.
