Freshmen Post Career Nights as Hornets down Roanoke 82-73

LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshmen Lyndon White and Zack Burnett posted career-high scoring efforts as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team raced past Roanoke College late in the second half for an 82-73 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

The Hornets led early on a pair of Austen Arnold free throws but Roanoke scored four straight for a 4-2 lead. The Maroons continued to take advantage of some Hornet miscues to take a 15-8 lead six minutes into the contest. Cameron Smith and Daniel Eacho had four each for the Maroons in the early going while cleaning up the glass for RC.

Roanoke continued to pull away in the first half, leading by as many as 11 points. The Maroons led 43-36 at the half behind a 28-18 rebounding advantage.

RC led 51-37 three minutes into the second half before Lynchburg started chipping away at the gap when Burnett hit his second trifecta of the game.

Stefan Vulevic made a jumper to push the lead back to 13, but White drove the lane and made the basket while drawing the foul. His converted free throw cut the lead to within 10.

Another old-fashioned three-point play by White on the Hornets' next possession cut the lead to seven with 13:36 left.

Roanoke refused to let Lynchburg get within striking distance until late in the half. Down 68-62 with 5:18 remaining, White converted a layup, stole the ball from the Maroons and made another layup to get LC within one possession.

Burnett knocked in another three to give the Hornets their first lead, 69-68, since leading 32-31 in the opening half. A layup by Alex Graves and another three from Burnett capped off a Hornet 10-1 run while netting Lynchburg a 74-69 with 1:26 remaining.

Burnett poured in 17 points on a Lynchburg season-high five three-pointers. Graves had 19 points to go with 11 boards while White contributed 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists. It was the first time in his career that White scored in double-figures.

Eacho led the Maroons (6-7/0-5) with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Smith added 10 points and 14 caroms to go along with 16 points and six assists from Julian Ramirez.

Lynchburg (10-4/3-2) plays at Washington and Lee University (5-8/2-2) Saturday at 2 p.m. in an ODAC contest.
