Brooklyn Snaps Four Game Losing Streak; Bulldogs Clip Hawks, 79-65

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team ended its four-game losing streak on Wednesday night at the West Quad Center, as the Bulldogs defeated the Hawks of Hunter College by a score of 79-65 in City of University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.

With the win, BC improves to 4-10 overall on the season and 2-5 in the CUNYAC, while Hunter drops to 7-8 overall on the year and 3-4 in conference play.

Brooklyn held the hot shooting hand in the first half, going 18-for-36 (50.0%) from the field and 6-for-11 (54.5%) from three, to take 13-point, 46-33, halftime advantage. Trailing by four, 9-5, with 16:07 left in the first half, the Bulldogs used a 17-1 run to go ahead by 12, 22-10, at the 11:35 mark to seize control of the game. SophomoreEgzon Gjonbalaj and junior Steven Diaz combined to score 13 of the 17 points to spark the run.

BC would eventually lead by as many as 18, 44-26, on a pair of free throws from sophomore Jamel Gist with 2:12 remaining before the intermission break.

Brooklyn would lead by double digits through the entire second half as the Hawks would be unable to threaten BC's advantage. The Bulldogs would lead by as many as 21, 69-48, with 8:13 left in the game on a three-pointer from Diaz, en route to taking home its 79-65 victory.

For the game, BC shot 47.5% (29-61) from the field and 50.0% (10-20) from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs also shot 64.7% (11-17) from the free throw line.

Hunter shot 34.4% (21-61) from the field and 30.8% (4-13) from three. The Hawks also shot 65.5% (19-29) from the charity stripe.

Brooklyn had five players score in double figures led by Gist's 14 points, to go along with seven assists. Diaz finished with 12 points going 4-for-8 from three, while junior Jai Kellman added 11 points. Gjonbalaj and juniorJustin Staton chipped in with 10 points each. Sophomore Dennis Balsam contributed with eight points, whileValon Djombalic grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Hunter was led by Robert Borusiewicz and Chris Garcia netted 11 points each, while Terrhon Vaughn finished with 10 points. Bryan Silvera grabbed 11 rebounds.
