Four Hilbert Hawks hit double digits in 84-76 win

Hamburg, NY - Four Hilbert Hawks worked their way to double digit scoring in the 84-76 win over Pitt Bradford. Jerame Owens posted a team-high 19 points (7-9 from the stripe), while pulling down 15 caroms. Sean Weisansal efficiently scored his 17 points on six of eight shooting. Jalen Smith continued to be impressive from behind the arc as all 15 of his points came from long range. Trevor Stark finished with 13 points and dished out six assists.
 
The Hawks battled for the win despite being outrebounded 44-34, which included giving up 14 offensive rebounds that turned into 22 Bradford points. Hilbert shot 45.9% from the floor, including 45.5% from long range. The Panthers shot 47.1% from the floor but were only 25% for three pointers.
 
The two teams traded missed layups the first four possessions until Stark started things off for the Hawks with a baseline jumper at 18:47. The Hawks would never trail for remainder of the game.
 
Jordan Kumro came off the bench on fire for the Hawks scoring all five of his points in his first two possessions. Twenty-four of Hilbert's 42 first half points came off the bench.
 
The Hawks continued to trade buckets with the Panthers and were knotted up at 18 with 10:48 to play in the half. Back-to-back threes by the Sean Weisansal and Jalen Smith extended the lead to 6.
 
Bradford found their points off the dribble and by pounding the ball inside. They finished the half with 22 of their 38 points coming from in the paint. Pitt Bradford's Tyler Fantaskey was a perfect five for five from the floor in the half. Hilbert only managed 10 points in the paint but was able to hit 6 first-half threes.
 
A transition dunk by Jereme Owens gave the Hawks an 8 point lead with 1:56 to play in the half. The Panthers scored the next 4 points to give Hilbert a slim 42-38 lead at the break. 
 
The second half began, again, with a Stark jumper followed by a Bradford three pointer, which was their only score from long range for the rest of the night. The Panthers were able to tie the game up three times in the half but never held the advantage.
 
The Hawks extended their lead to as much as 12, but the Panthers stayed in the game by continuing to pound the ball inside. Bradford was able to cut their turnovers down from 10 to a mere three in the second half. The Hawks managed to only turn the ball over 8 times on the night and dished out 18 assists.
 
Weisensal was a perfect 5-5 in the second half with an additional two free throws. He also finished with four assists.
 
The Hawks (11-2, 6-1) are on the road this weekend where they will play Pitt-Greensburg at 1pm on Saturday.
