GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins improved to 7-1 in CSAC play and 11-4 overall with a 75-55 win over Centenary Wednesday evening.
Arron Goodman led Gwynedd, who won their fourth game in a row, with a game-high 31 points. He also collected 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double on the season. Justin Knight added 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals as the Griffins held off a late push from the Cyclones (2-12, 1-6 CSAC).
Paul Jones had 15 points and 12 boards for Centenary, who also saw Joshua Case and Clayton Roker add 11 points each.
Gwynedd was able to put together a late scoring run in the first half to take a 38-22 lead. Up four with just past the midway point, Goodman's three-pointer from the top of the key capped an 11-2 run, to help GM keep the double-digit lead until the break.
Colin Gates hit from downtown as a 14-4 spurt to open the second gave Gwynedd its largest lead of the contest at 52-26. The Cyclones climbed back into it, thanks to a 12-0 run of their own. Jones' putback pulled Centenary within 61-52 with 4:34 to play and again it was a nine-point game (63-54) with 3:57 to go. However, it would be the final field goal for the Cyclones the rest of the way as the Griffins got a pair of big dunks from Goodman and Knight to highlight a 12-1 run to close the contest.
The Griffins rebounded from a 36.7% (11-of-30) shooting clip in the first to go 12-of-25 (48%) in the second. Centenary was just 18-of-61 (29.5%) for the game, including a 1-for-15 stint from behind the arc. Both teams made plenty of trips to the free-throw line, as Gwynedd went 24-of-34 and Centenary was 18-of-27.
GM would hold a commanding 51-32 rebound advantage. Cedric Elleby pulled down 14 while Tom McKeefery grabbed six. McKeefery and Goodman also blocked three shots each as part of a team total of 10 rejections.
Gwynedd Mercy, winners of eight of their last nine, will look to make it nine of 10 on Saturday when they travel to Marywood for a CSAC tilt starting at 1 p.m.
