Brockport Blows Out Fredonia in Home Opener

Senior John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds as The College at Brockport men's basketball team scored a season-high 97 points against Fredonia in the home opener of the 2013-14 season on Friday night.

Brockport (9-1, 3-0 SUNYAC) started out the 97-47 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on a 15-0 run, with Ivy tallying eight of the 15.

The Golden Eagles held the Blue Devils scoreless until the 14 minute mark.

Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) put the Golden Eagles up by 25-5 with just over nine minutes to play in the first half.

Ivy gave Brockport its largest lead of the game with a free throw at 1:23, putting the Golden Eagles up by 39, 49-10.

Fredonia (3-9, 0-5 SUNYAC) closed out the first half with three free throws, heading into halftime down by 36.

The Golden Eagles shot 63% (17-of-27) in the first half, while the Blue Devils struggled; only shooting 13.6% (3-of-22).

Brockport continued its momentum into the second half. Ivy drained a jumper from outside to put the Golden Eagles up 53-13 in the first minute of play.

The Blue Devils cut the Brockport lead to 36 with a layup at 15:45, but that was the closest they would get to the Golden Eagles for the remainder of the game.

Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) pushed the Golden Eagle lead out to 41 points with a layup at 14:08, while freshman Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) followed up with another layup to put Brockport up by 43.  

A dunk from Jon Carnegie (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) gave the Golden Eagles a 55 point lead, their largest of the game with just over three minutes to play.

Brockport shot 61.7% (37-of-60), 54.5% (12-of-22) from long range and 64.7% (11-of-17) from the free throw line.

Ivy led the way with 23 points, draining 5-of-7 threes and pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds. Also in double-digit scoring for the Golden Eagles were Bobby Bell (Rochester, NY/East) with 12 points and Clifton Lyerly (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) with 10 points. Coyle finished the game with four big blocks and was second on the team with nine boards

The Golden Eagles return for more SUNYAC action on Friday evening for a home matchup at 8 pm against Oswego.
